Help! I can't see my list!
We're happy to help you figure out what's wrong, but please provide as much information as possible. Before asking for help through the messageboards or the admin contact address at
[1] gather your information:
- What is the URL of the page you are trying to access? Your list is located at http://db.etree.org/your_username
- What exactly is happening?
- I get a 404 error. If you see anything other than Document not found. Return to db.etree.org, you've got Spyware. Try using a [different browser] to see what the real error message is.
- The site times out. Are you browsing from home or work? At work, your IT department may have blocked etree.org. Spyware may also be a factor.
- If you DO get Document not found. Return to db.etree.org, make sure you're typing your list address correctly.
- I get a sql error. This is usually something site-related and likely has nothing to do with your list. It may go away on its own, but if it doesn't, please post the EXACT text of the error at the Help Desk at the [Etree Forums] or email it to [The Admin Team].
- I get a proxy error or bad gateway or no database selected. This is because the site is very busy. Give it a moment, and try again. If it continues, we may be doing maintenance. If it continues for more than an hour or so, your list may be too large. You can work around it using a smarty skin (see AllAboutSkins) with a drop-down box that displays your list by artist rather than loading the whole thing at once. Smarty skins are recommended anyway because they put less strain on the server and enable more people to use it at once. ** "I get a 'Fatal error: Smarty error'." This is most likely a temporary problem. Try refreshing or coming back in a few minutes.
- I get a blank page. Try refreshing (Ctrl-F5) or changing your skin. Does it say anything in the status bar at the very bottom of your browser?
- I see part of my list, but not all of it. Try refreshing (Ctrl-F5) or changing your skin (see AllAboutSkins) or using MultupleLists? - a partial load is an indicator that your list is too big for a single page.
- I get redirected to another site. You have (SpyWare).
- Does it happen quickly, or does the page time out after a long wait? If there's a long wait, the server may just be overloaded; try again later. Your list may also be too big - consider changing to a smarty skin.
- Which browser are you using? Internet Explorer 6 does not display some types of pages properly - this is not the site's fault, but instead the fact that IE6 is poorly-designed. (We're not sure about IE7). We HIGHLY recommend using [Firefox] - it is more standards-compliant and more secure. Error messages from Firefox will be much more useful to us.
