Pink Floyd
The Massed Gadgets of Auximenes

*I've seen three other possibilities for the actual official release of Doing It: Up the Khyber, Grand Vizier's Garden Party, and Party Sequence.

This is the first performance of the concept concerts "The Man" and "The Journey." Quality is not the best, but the performances are very different from the Amsterdam show. It is 2 CD's and Interstellar Overdrive is performed as an encore. There are many differences between this and the Amsterdam show: 1) the song that would become Cymbaline (called Nightmare) has not yet become separate from Sleep(ing). 2) Daybreak (part two) is very different. 3) The Labyrinths of Auximenes does not yet contain the bass line that can be found in latter parts of post-Syd performances of Interstellar Overdrive (perhaps because IO was performed at this concert) and thus is very different from the version on the Amsterdam show. Interstellar Overdrive is a very good version with some neat guitar riffs about 5 minutes in. Although sound quality is just one step above horrendous, this concert is very historical in terms of the 1969 shows.

Notes: PAL DVD-PRO SHOT-LPCM AUDIO-FULLY AUTHORED-NO ARTWORK-25 MNS THIS IS THE REHEARSAL, NOT THE ACTUAL SHOW DOWNLOADED FROM DIME-A VIDEO QUALITY The video comes from a copy of the "back-up DVD" made for Anthony Stern some years ago. Mr. Stern had a copy of this film made from 16mm to VHS for his own personal use. Then, he had the VHS tape transferred to DVD. The video here comes directly from that transfer, with no additional re-encoding. The audio was slightly remastered in order to suppress VHS crackles and noises, to adjust the levels and EQ, and to synchronise the different parts with the video, especially the organ part where the audio was about 1,7s too early compared to the video.

Notes: Harvested DVD 008. This is by far the most incredible thing I have ever witnessed out of all my DVD bootlegs. There is a TCR time stamp at the very top of the video. There is NO MENU, but there are chapters. The video is in black and white. This is video of the rehearsals that were before the show began. "This is about 20 mins of b/w footage shot at the Royal Festival Hall by Anthony Stern (it sez so right there on the opening slate). It seems that Stern was called earlier that day by the band to shoot this amazing and unique performance. Unfortunately, he didn't go through all the proper channels, and only got permission from the RFH to shoot the rehearsals and only in certain areas of the venue. This becomes apparent when the venue's security "busts" him and orders him to turn over all of his equipment. This all takes place while the camera is still rolling, but with audio only! You can hear the escalating dialogue between Anthony and security/management as he pleads his case. Too bad he didn't go through the proper channels and pay for the rights to film the actual show, as he was evidently prepared to do, but at least we have this incredible rehearsal footage to marvel at. That's the story I heard and this is how I pieced this thing together. Maybe a phone call to Mr. Stern would clear things up. I'll get back with an update if he does. There is also current speculation that the actual performance was filmed as well (quoted recently by Roger Waters)." If you are a fan of Pink Floyd, you owe it to yourself to get a copy of this. If you don't get it from me, then GET IT FROM SOMEONE!!!!
