Notes: | This is a great find and a piece of rock history. ?Rock Goes To College? was a BBC TV series in the late ?70?s that featured live shows by up-and-coming bands on the UK college circuit. This show was recorded on 02/21/79 in a small hall at Hatfield Polytechnic, and was first aired on BBC2 UK Gold at 11:40pm on 06/04/79. The concert is famous amongst many fans for being the show in which the band first performed the track ?Message In A Bottle? live in public. ?Message In A Bottle? was not released as a single until September 1979. The show is also historically important in that it occurred just days before the band left the UK for their first ever US tour. Sting has since discussed how he landed in New York with literally only a few dollars in his pocket and could only afford a salad and a coffee at a local diner. When the salad arrived and it was the size of his head, and then discovered the coffee was ?bottomless?, he fell in love with the place! This video is pro-shot BBC material with great sound. All up it runs for about 40 minutes, but there is also some great filler making the disc run in total for just over an hour. Filler: The Police - Old Grey Whistle Test (from a VH1 Broadcast): "Can?t Stand Losing You"; The Police - Gateshead Stadium July 1982: "Walking On The Moon"; Sting ? Glastonbury 1997: "Fields of Gold", "Englishman In New York", "Every Breath You Take" (cuts towards the end). Enjoy! | |||||
