Justin (2/5) VCD / 1 View   Video: Pro Shot Black and White with Sndbrd feed > unknown generations vhs > Canopus...
Notes: After capturing the video, the audience soundtrack (from the video) was exported and then loaded into Cool Edit Pro along with a copy of the aud audio. Then, an unique note at approximately 1 minute intervals on the video soundtrack was found and matched to the same note from the sbd. Some modification (ie stretching or shrinking) to the length of these segment was required in order for the sbd to flawlessly match the captured video. The original video audience track was then mixed and both tracks imported as background music prior to creating the master dvd. The video was captured at 720x480 resolution (DVD) at 4500bits\sec to create the original mpeg2 file. After the sound was imported and the dvd burned, the mpeg2 file was rendered to 352x240 to make VCD disks. Takes either (1) dvds or (1) vcds.

I'm almost afraid to say considering how much more experience there is in sound production within the grateful dead trading community that I almost feel like a child just playing with blocks in comparison. This is what I did though: The video sound was mostly low end and muffled - probably due to generation loss during transfers. The only other source is an audience from a teddy goodbear boombox recording that is very metallic and mostly high end - the compendium gave it a C. I removed some hiss from the video track (probably caused by multigeneration transfers) and then where no audience existed boosted the signal to 75% peak. Both channels from the video are identical. Teddy was pretty quick on the pause button, so the audience is cut drastically between songs - during these patches only the video sound exists. The audience recording also has identical left and right channels. Where both video and audience exist - I mixed them together as follows: Left channel: video boosted to 75% peak and audience reduced to 50% peak Right channel: video boosted to 50% peak and audience reduced to 75% peak The resulting mix gives an illusion that there is a difference between the channels and seems to be much fuller than either source alone. Audio\Video Flaws: 1) The first 1 minute 04.013 seconds of the start of the video were added from the video soundtrack to give a better lead in. 2) Teddy's audience track was mixed during the entire Estimated Prophit and stops 10.984 seconds after the end of the song. 3) The next 2 minutes 22 seconds of the video have only the video soundtrack. There is a half second splice in the video after this. 4) When the video restarts, Teddy's audience track was mixed during the entire Deal and stops 7.140 seconds after the end of the song. 5) The next 5.237 seconds of the video have only the video soundtrack. There is a 0.300 second splice in the video after this to end the set. 6) The next 2 minutes 10.064 seconds of the video have only the video soundtrack. 7) 11.007 seconds before Good Lovin' starts, Teddy's audience track is avaiable. It was mixed in during the entire Good Lovin' and stops 2.120 seconds after the end of the song. 8) The next 1 minutes 40.322 seconds of the video have only the video soundtrack. 9) 3.189 seconds before Mississippi Halfstep starts, Teddy's audience is avaiable. It was mixed in during the entire song and stops 13.234 seconds after the end of the song. 10) The next 2 minutes 10.830 seconds of the video have only the video soundtrack. 11) 14.582 seconds before Dancin' In The Streets starts, Teddy's audience is avaiable. It was mixed in during the rest of the video (Dancin'>Drums>Eyes//. 12) Video is cut after about 1 minute 30 seconds into Eyes.
