Notes: Peter Gabriel October 4, 1978 The Bottom Line - New York City, NY 1. On The Air 2. White Shadow 3. D. I. Y. 4. Solsbury Hill 5. Here Comes The Flood 6. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway Broadcast on King Biscuit Flower Hour Lineage: My Master Cassette recorded off of WNEW FM > EAC > Flac Frontend > Make Torrent The Band: Peter Gabriel, vocals, piano; Tony Levin, bass, stick; Sid McGinness (for many years after that, to this day, of the David Letterman Band), guitar; Larry Fast, synths, Timmy Capello, Sax and keys, Robert Fripp, guitar solo on Here Comes the Flood I attended this show. The Bottom Line was a tiny club seating maybe 300 people. Except for a very few lucky people, the only way to get in was by waiting on the standing room line, in the pouring rain, on Mercer and W.4 St. They finally let us in during White Shadow, which, I think, was the second song of the show. The place was packed and it was absolute pandemonium. Gabriel was running around the room, jumping on tables, etc. The ?little surprise? that he refers to before Solsbury Hill was Robert Fripp. Everyone knew that Fripp was going to play. I?m not sure how, and I?m not sure if Fripp was a regular guest on the ?78 tour. He was definitely at the Palladium in NYC a month later. But in any event, as Dusty Rhodes during the ?77 tour, he played off to the side, whereas here, at the tiny Bottom Line, he was right up there on stage under the lights. When he finally emerged during Solsbury Hill (you can hear the applause during the song), the place went even wilder, which wasn?t easy since it was already bedlam in there. I wish this whole show would emerge in this kind of quality. For now, this snippet will have to do. Enjoy.
