Notes: Belle And Sebastian were formed at an all-night caf? in Glasgow, Scotland in early 1996, and named after a cult 60?s television show. The core of the band, songwriter Stuart Murdoch (vocals, guitar, piano) and Stuart David (bass), refused to release photographs or any information about individual members of the band beyond their names. Despite this, Belle And Sebastian, also comprising Stevie Jackson (guitars, harmonica, vocals), Richard Colburn (drums), Chris Geddes (keyboards, guitar), Isobel Campbell (cello) and Sarah Martin (violin, stylophone), started packing out their Scottish gigs within months of their formation. Their string-based sound owes much to the "Tindersticks", but also carries hints of country music and early 80?s bed-sitter favorites such as "Felt". The band's dark tones and Murdoch's quirky, sometimes Morrissey-esque lyrics (I wonder why Ed is attracted to them?!!), allegedly written on Glasgow buses, found favor in alternative circles as far afield as San Francisco and France. Their debut album, "Tigermilk" was recorded in three days and one thousand copies released on vinyl only. Those vinyl versions now changes hands for up to ?400 ($726 US) per copy. This show sounds damn good for an FM broadcast. One minor split second skip in track 7. The DJ does some station IDs between songs but it does not interrupt the music. Thanks Ed
