Notes: "Ben Harper / 1994 / Church House Blues" Ben Harper - Church House Blues This 2-CDr set features a slice of Ben's early days. Across the discs are a powerful performance from October 20, 1994 @ The Turning Point in Piermont, NY. notes from Benharper.net: The band trades instruments for this show. Juan sits in on drums, while Oliver plays shakers and percussion along with Leon; no bass! Ben sings the rare "If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again" a capella. In addition, the show features early, raw performances of "Power of the Gospel" and a solo "God Fearing Man". "The Three of Us" is performed by Ben playing the main part on the standard guitar, and thus, there is no slide guitar accompaniment, unlike the studio version. Before "God Fearing Man" Ben gives a teaser of what "Breakin' Down" used to sound like prior to JP coming up with the swingin' bass line. The source recording was digitally edited, re-mastered, and backed with kind filler.
