Notes: | sbd - kaplan (2 addntl tracks from PBS broadcast) [2007-08-27]Sound quality varies from B to A-. H2H a tasty hint of where this song was going, C>R and NFA > SS > NFA, Midnight Hour are all goo dtunes, but this format didn't allow for epic GD. the jam at the end with Santana and JA is typical of these events - just too many people playing at once, with a rotating solo or leader. No chance for ensemble magic. For completists only. | |||||

For the remainder, I used the previous circulating (PBS) Pro Shot DVD of the mono recording then heavy editing using Cool Edit Pro adding (among other things) a simulated stereo effect. Other then the 3 Dead songs, the remainder does not sound great. IMHO however, it sounds better then the original mono recording and overall very enjoyable! Filmed at San Francisco's legendary Family Dog Ballroom on February 4th 1970, "A NIGHT AT THE FAMILY DOG" is an amazing document of the entire Haight-Ashbury scene distilled into one incredible night of performances from three of the era's most definitive bands: Santana, the Grateful Dead, and Jefferson Airplane. Produced by poet and jazz critic Ralph J. Gleason as part of a documentary series for the National Educational Television Network, the concert film boasts two songs by Santana, three by the Grateful Dead - featuring original member Ron "Pig Pen" McKernan on "Hard To Handle", two by Jefferson Airplane, and an all-star jam with members of all three bands for an exuberant testament to one of the most exciting yet ephemeral moments in rock history!!! <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Screen Captures (more in previews ~ see below) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ UPDATE ~ To preview a SAME show "In The Midnight Hour" slideshow SCREEN CAPS video "WMV" file: http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/gd1970-02-04.html http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/santana08.jpg http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/santana09.jpg http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/santana10.jpg http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/gd03.jpg http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/gd02.jpg http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/gd05.jpg http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/gd07.jpg http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/gd10.jpg http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/gd14.jpg http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/gd01.jpg http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/ja01.jpg http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/ja05.jpg http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/ja09.jpg http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/ja13.jpg http://www.goodbear.com/gd1970-02-04/ja14.jpg The 1st Lossless Legs Project to start "In The Midnight Hour" eastern on Saturday 10/14/2006!!!
