Notes: | wbotb source partial - excellent sound and no flaws. The drums is long and boring (first time for the beast I believe). The intro to TOO also a bit early. Oter than being Bren't first show, and the sound quality of a Betty board, the playing captured here is average 79 at best, the jamming not exceptional.

Notes: | complete mixed sbd sources - Ste 1 sound quality a notch below good boards - a little muddy or tinny, with the latter from the CE hiss reduction applied. Not much happens in set 1 that would make me search for a better sounding source. Set 2 starts with the overplayed Miracle > Bertha > Lovin' triplet. After dispensing with that, the real show starts with Scarlet > Fire. What I noticed here was that Brent's organ work was more active than I remember from later in the year. He plays more interleaving with Garcia. The Estimated > He's Gone > ... > TOO agains shows Brent playing as though he was always a member. Interesting that he sounds well intergated (check out TOO). Set 2 is worth a listen once you factor in the "first Brent show" uniqueness.

Notes: | fac16; Recorded by Mark Severson; 2 Sony ECM-270s> Sony TC-D5 (2 Maxell UD XL-IIs + 1 TDK SA-90) Mics mounted on 2 poles, 3'-5' apart; 20' in front of sound board Transfer and FLAC encoding by David Minches: Master played back on Nak Dragon> Grace Lunatec V3 (24/96)> Digital Audio Labs Card Deluxe> Adobe Audition 2.0> (dither/downsample)> FLAC encoding [2008-04-19]Being an outdoor show, hall reverb is very mono-ish, so to my tatse this is a B+ sound quality - Phil's bass is very thumpy. More important as Brent's 1st show than any music played - Brent does play differently now than what his style morphs into - I find his earlyplaying more interesting because he seems more willing to not be solely a support role.
