Notes: sbd - cotsman [2006-05-12] Here are Cotsman's comments: "The Confusion: There has been a great deal of confusion regarding the date of 8-22-68, and this shn set still has several uncertain elements. Maybe some of this info can help: --"source 1" (mono), has circulated fairly commonly under "8-22-68", though the Alligator that accompanies that recording is actually the version from 8-21-68. Still, there is no certainty that this material covering Stephen through New Potato is from 8-22. It does not match any other circulating material, though, and the intro from Bill Graham clearly places this at the Fillmore. Furthermore, this show may circulate with Dark Star as the opener, as it follows the Bill Graham intro. However, Bill Graham introduced the band at the start of each set in those days, so I've kept Dark Star where it was on my copy, in position to start the 2nd set. --"source 2" is in stereo, and has been dated as 8-22-68 from David Gans. This portion often circulates following an alternate mix of the material that would make up "Two From The Vault" (8-24-68). Other bits of reference: --Phil's bass is out of tune during New Potato on 8-22, unlike the phenominal 8-24 version --the Alligator from 8-21 differs as it does not segue into Caution --the Alligator/Caution from 8-23 differs in that it does not segue into WBYG after Feedback --the minor cut in Feedback on 8-22 may be disguised on some copies. Lastly, this probably isn't the end of confusion for 8-22, but as of Jan '03, it's a best guess." To add to the confusion, Samaratino said in the comments "How much of the beginning of St. Stephen is clipped on this? Also where is the Other One splice?...I know it says 3:41, but mine is on Dat with no track times. A vocal or musical cue would be good. When I saw this on etree, I pulled my Dat and the entire St. Stephen is in tact except for the pre-song tuning and I don't hear a splice in the Other One. The sound is really good and the stated lineage is Master Reel Soundboard, Healy digital re-master for possible TFTV release (which, of course, ended up being 8/24). " As of 5/12/06, no improvement to this source has surfaced. This performance isn't as tight as the LA gigs a few days later. As typical for this time, 11 and NPC are the most developed jam vehicles with lots of energy. Dark Star is a 12 minute version with the Bill Graham "Clean cutr but morally corrupt, the GD" intro. The Alligator through the end most liekly the same as the jools fragment version.

Notes: sbd - Jools version of Alligator thru WBYGN [2006-04-30] This is a nice sounding board of a respectable but not mandatory listening performance. The Cuation > Feedback portion was the best part to my ears. The TC reveiw gives this higher marks than me. This also came at the end of my listening to all of 68 so it didn't standout enough for me to be so enthusiastic about it. Maybe another listen will have it grow on me.
