Notes: From eurodead cdr tree. Considering the date, this audience tape has very good base pick-up with polite clapping between songs so you have an unobstructed clear recording. The show starts with a jammed out Playin' (which normally was the set 1 ending jam song) so from the get go you don't know what to expect this night. In fact, when you put this on you think you've mixed up the disk order! The meat of set 2 is Dark Star > Sug Mag > Caution, with the Caution the highlight for me. The rhythm is rentless, Garcia's guitar is dancin' and adding decoratative touches around great ensemble playing by the rest of the band. Dark Star goes from a groovy feel into a jazzy atonal jam into an angry jazzy jam post first verse. Altogether, another great Euope 72 show.

Notes: sbd/aud matrix of Dark Star > Sugar Mag > Caution jam. The circulating sbd has some distortion but punchy bass and when mixed with the aud you get a better end product - oh yes, the music is excellent this night in case you were wondering.
Matt Vernon (1/4.8) SHN / 3 A B View 17026
Notes: soundboard that circs has somewhat distorted, hoolow sound, variable speed issues etc. The aud is better overall but this is here for completeness. Check out the matrix I made of the set 2 jam segment.

Notes: sbd - cousinit [2006-03-24] Finally listened to this. I have not done a Cool Edit waveform comparison but this source didn't strike me as a marked improvement over the previous circulating source. Phil is high in the mix but this means there is a significant amount of distortion in Dark Star when he is playing cords. This is a great show and hopefully will be released mastered from the 16 track tapes one day. I still prefer the aud. In fact, when the source transitions to the aud it seems as though your head was under water before.

Notes: sbd [2006-04-01] Remasteretd by SirMick - I didn't notice any obvious improvement over the prior circulating source - I think you'd have to do a careful comparison and pay attention to note the differences.

My matrix had a known flaw where the aud patch I put in the sbd was out of phase with the same aud because of the pitch differences. At the time I didn't have enough energy to fix it - also the sources have variable speed throughout so syncing them together is a real chore.

I liked this show but I think the matrix with the aud adds that extra bit of crowd energy.
