Notes: Joan Osborne (no relation to Ozzie!) was born in Anchorage, Kentucky in 1963, and raised Catholic until her family stopped attending Mass when she was 10, a decision that may explain the obsession with spiritual matters often found in her lyrics. Her singing career began auspiciously during open mic night at a local bar where she did an impromptu take on Billie Holiday's "God Bless The Child". This eventually led to an extended period of club gigs, prompting Osborne to drop out of school. Her music is an eclectic mix of soul, R&B and blues and her vocals present a husky, soulful and smoldering passion for bluesy rock. Her style owes much to signers like Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin. This show is the opening set for Rusted Root. Thanks Miles
