Notes: sbd patched by Cotsman [2007-05-19]Rumor has it this was one of 3 shows that Latvala pitched for the DP series. Set 1 starts with the last time H>S>F would be played with Keith and Donna. Of course this is a great song combo but can't say that this specific rendition is one of the best played - in fact, being the lead off for the night and out of rotation it comes off a little rusty. The band gets into the 77 "perfection" groove for the rest of the set with a good Straw, Deal and LIG. I don't find LIG is a tune that I look forward to hearing - melody seems too orchestrated and forced but lots of folks rave about 77 versions that closed set 1. Set II starts with a funky Dancin' -> Dire Wolf, followed by an Estimated (Garcia playing is aggressive and edgy) -> Eyes (smooth flawless playing)-> Drums (boring)-> Not Fade Away (highlight of show - Garcia playing very edgy, definite should hear this version) -> Wharf Rat (good)-> Around and Around (standard). Nice show, probably worth a listen if you like 77 and check out the NFA.

Notes: sbd xfer'd by Jake Clemens [2007-08-11]Source has same glitches and disk change gaps (with overlap to these ears), so can't say that this is a big upgrade. Odd that the H>S>F to kick off the show struck me as pedestrian - this being one of the 3 shows Dick selected to illustrate options for the DP series. Give the sound a B+ and the show a B+. I can't figure out what Dick was thinking about this night.

This show seems more famous for Latvala's enthusiastic opinion of it. Here's a LMA comment that captures the pro side "101177: The last Help>Slip>Franklin's w/Donna & Keith; gotta love how Jerry ad-libs on the lyrics, "It rings like fire if you lose you way.....Yes,it will!" Phil..is, well, 1977 Phil. There is "something" about this show that is special in its own imperfect perfection. It was mentioned earlier: selections from this show can be found as "hidden tracks" on Dick's Picks #29 (Disc 2: "NFA>Wharf Rat?>Around..." Disc #5: "Dancin'>Dire Wolf")" To me, set 2 has too common a set list (Estimated > Eyes > TOO >Wharf Rat > A&A) to make it to the top of my list of exceptional 77 shows.
