Notes: | Jerry Moore aud gdADT #16 [2007-05-03] The LMA comments suggest this show is not a top one for 74. "The Slipknot doodle is about 40 seconds into the second round of Playing in the Band (Right after Uncle John's)....I found this show a little below average for the period (june 74). The first set has some nice song selections, and the Playin is nice, typical '74. But the second set to me is just average. Not bad by any means, but not near as hot as 6/18, or the 2 shows on 6/26 and 6/28....This show has everything I love about spring/summer '74 shows -- playing and singing that were at the same time introspective and intense, set-lists with both country/bluegrass and jazz flavours, and generally relaxed atmosphere on stage and in the audience. This AUD recording is as good as any from the era. The sound is airy and the mix is generally good. As with all AUDs, audience noise is a part of the listening experience, but there's not much on this recording. It's difficult list highlights because there are a lot of very interesting musical moments -- particularly in Jerry's playing (for example, his noodling on Greatest Story shows his love of Miles Davis, and he takes Playing in the Band right into outer space. The band covers a lot of my personal favourites with only one or two songs I'm not big on. If you like shows from spring/summer of '74, and if you like AUDs, this bud's for you!" Set 1 has a PITB>UJB>PITB sandwich which is atypical, usually PITB if sandwiched is in set 2. In set 2 again experimenting with US Blues placement, here it starts the jam segment with USBlues > Truckin > EOTW, with EOTW having the main improv moments. No encore - someone from the stage comes out and says to the effect "screw you" as though something happened, don't know what though. Excellent Moore aud for this WOS era.

Notes: | sbd - patched weiner [2007-05-08]Mix and tone are very good. Highlights are the obvious Playin' (very jazzy in a sort of Miles Davis way) -> UJB -> Playin' at the end of set 1, China -> Rider, Scarlet Begonias, yet another experiment in placing US BLues, here to start the jam segment of U.S. Blues-> Truckin'-> Eyes -> Stella, and don't forget to check out the superb Garcia transition jam into GDTRFB out of NFA. Can't rate this in any way as epic but it does have some nice highlights.

Notes: | set 2 sbd/aud matrix by SirMick [2007-03-30] Recording sound and mix etc are very good, but this set didn't leave any strong impressions - specifically in this month there were a number of experiments with US Blues in the set 2 jam spots either as the lead-in or wrap up. In other cases the jam connecting US Blues was interesting, unusual and unexpected. Here it is simply welded onto Truckin' and the segue from that into EOTW was indicative of a going through the motion performance. The China -> Rider, Big River, Scarlet Begonias, to start the set looks like a high energy RNR start to the set with a NFA-> GDTRFB-> OMSN close. For me, this set didn't stay in the player.

Set 2 has a C>R, Scarlet and a US BLues > Eyes, NFA>GDTRFB>NFA. All is well played and the mixup of the usual songs and jams makes this get on the must hear list.
