Comment
from Deadlists.com:

The tapes circulating with this date are from a "Heartbeats" show, without Bobby and Pigpen. (1) with Jack Casady and Spencer Dryden. (2) with Jack Casady and David Getz. This contains a lengthy "The Creator Has a Master Plan" theme and has references to Dark Star, Clementine, and China Cat Sunflower. An extensive search through the old San Francisco Chronicle newspapers failed to turn up any evidence of this event - no advertisements, no announcements in the "on the town" column etc. Bill Gadsden said he copied from Peter Abram "two reels with 45 minutes apiece of Garcia, Spencer Dryden, Cassady, Getz, etc from 12/16/68". A third jam has previously circulated as "Set 3" of this date, but Bill says that it's "with Harvey Mandel from 12/24/68".

Notes: This is from Bill Gadsden: All of the Matrix material, 10/8/68, 11/10/68, 10/30/68, 12/16/68, 12/24/68, 7/30/70, and 12/15/70 was copied by yours truly and my taping partner, Peter Kafer, in 1974 from 7" 1/4 track reels that we borrowed from Peter Abram, proprietor of the Matrix. We copied it all onto Maxell reels @ 7 1/2 ips. The stuff I just sent you was copied from those Maxell reels directly to CD using an Alesis Masterlink, sampling @ 24 bit, 96k. I played the reels on a Revox B77. The question mark with regard to the lineage is whether Abram's 2-tracks were copies of 4-track masters, or were masters themselves. I suspect the former, but never asked him and have no evidence other than what I've read in various Dead-related postings here and there. I hope we can put to rest the confusion about the 10/10 sets; they are reversed in Deadlists and Lovelights, as you can tell from my copy, is just a continuation of that jam that comes before. This show was distributed through Charlie Miller's "Matrix Tree"
