Concert # 27 with the 9th Never-Ending Tour Band: Bob Dylan (vocal & guitar), Bucky Baxter (pedal steel guitar & electric slide guitar), John Jackson (guitar), Tony Garnier (bass), Winston Watson (drums & percussion). 1, 8-12, 19 acoustic with the band. 12 starts acoustic and ends electric. 5, 9-11, 14, 15, 19 Bob Dylan harmonica. 1, 8, 12 Bucky Baxter (accordion). 4 new songs (21%) compared to previous concert. 3 new songs for this tour. NOTES: Some track transitions are not entirely seamless D2 T8: [0:28] cut *** = rest of show filled out using a audience recording SOUND: Alien. Tony fans take note, the mix has our boy center stage, along with Bob's vocals. Compressed but warm and throaty, this unusual sound has some personality to it. This may be one that grows on you the longer you listen. For the impatient among us however this isn't the best recording in the box set, you'll probably hear the overcooked, bleeding and buzzy vocals and think I've lost it, calling it 'unusual'. I don't know, I like shows with lots of bass in 'em, so I like this. COMMENTS: Take a listen at the nice jam in Watchtower, nothing like refreshing a stale drink now and then to jumpstart a tape. The band is all over these songs tonight, and Bob is answering the challenge. Mellow vibes abound in Big Girl Now, too bad Bob's guitar solo not only sprays graffiti over the melody, but it throws his timing off just enough to make him start yelling to catch up. Tony turns Watching The River Flow into a honky-tonk parade, you can hear every fill he's pulling off on this recording. Tomorrow Night, let me count the ways. How can you not jab wildly at the repeat button when he's singing like that? I'm a sucker for that bending, roller coaster country-folk-blues lilt, or whatever it is. That's Bob all right: his voice has tremendous bend. It gets reedy on Tambourine Man, but we get a Tam Jam that takes us to the bus stop and back, so it's worth a couple listens. In later years he would use that breathless, stacking vocal style to great effect (for good or ill) on Don't Think Twice and Hard Rain, among others. Speaking of Don't Think Twice, Bob's singing like a dumb kid who just lost his favorite thing in the world; baffled, sad, and talking to himself even though others are in the same room. Excellent. Making like the Grateful Dead, they melt right into Heaven's Door, but Bob is doing the shouty-karaoke thing and the best the band can muster is a clich?-ridden solo that belongs in a museum somewhere, where future bands can go study how the dinosaurs used to sound when the world was new and musical clich?s were still okay. Bob tones it down for Simple Twist of Fate, and it's a goodie. Hey, somebody finished off the show by using an audience source, that was nice of them. Man, hearing the crowd where they're supposed to be is like opening a window and catching a stiff breeze. Now I'm tripping on the clap along attempts and the miscellaneous cheering and hooting instead of listening to the music. Ah well, I'm sure I didn't miss much. BOTTOM LINE: Not too bad, a few highlights, Bob's singing pretty well. Call this one slightly above average, which means it's mildly recommended...sort of. note: downloaded from easytree (1/05). renamed to etree naming standards. no other edits performed to fileset. shntool output: length expanded size cdr WAVE problems filename 4:59.73 52915340 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d1t01.flac 8:45.59 92748812 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d1t02.flac 5:30.27 58275548 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d1t03.flac 8:08.54 86210252 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d1t04.flac 12:21.05 130724204 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d1t05.flac 6:12.44 65724332 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d1t06.flac 6:12.69 65783132 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d1t07.flac 6:15.59 66288812 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d1t08.flac 5:14.29 55457852 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d1t09.flac 7:50.40 83002124 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d1t10.flac 8:04.30 85448204 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d2t01.flac 4:42.26 49805996 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d2t02.flac 5:04.26 53686796 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d2t03.flac 9:12.48 97485740 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d2t04.flac 8:43.27 92320748 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d2t05.flac 7:37.37 80701868 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d2t06.flac 5:47.07 61227308 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d2t07.flac 0:29.16 5153276 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d2t08.flac 6:07.48 64851740 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d2t09.flac 6:58.01 73737596 --- -- ---xx bd1993-06-19d2t10.flac 134:18.50 1355.70 MB (totals for 20 files, 0.4672 overall compression ratio) FLAC Fingerprint: bd1993-06-19d1t01.flac:fd707a837d6dd7727746f7044bfe1ee0 bd1993-06-19d1t02.flac:4454e9ef4b99a514a98e4c28ee8da058 bd1993-06-19d1t03.flac:6176366be4a1c78c1fc71035738f7c7c bd1993-06-19d1t04.flac:5bf0671ff14a2e49dc4cbfef04a55b55 bd1993-06-19d1t05.flac:81e96cc879e0280594c7ae39b6d6f545 bd1993-06-19d1t06.flac:414cd006a9d6fef916286a4e3f963af9 bd1993-06-19d1t07.flac:a5cc75b6a3e362e73e5698de24774e78 bd1993-06-19d1t08.flac:bc1f7830197bddd90f3c3bf63b9c0b13 bd1993-06-19d1t09.flac:b7d873832da8d0541edd53e1a5f7f8b2 bd1993-06-19d1t10.flac:969b33195f90b9d87251bb0836ff5e14 bd1993-06-19d2t01.flac:6ae674ff19410ebabee471b4f8c368af bd1993-06-19d2t02.flac:00d761c291a368b968cd1d26fabf4d8a bd1993-06-19d2t03.flac:e080482679b788e2a16505ed586d31fd bd1993-06-19d2t04.flac:2eb29be8dc931ef8191976e86733cac9 bd1993-06-19d2t05.flac:786b8865ead02cd9b804333bb79462bc bd1993-06-19d2t06.flac:dfb632e270e0210a1c51bf83e99807c1 bd1993-06-19d2t07.flac:02822779a192b1c2632a43de1e9cfb63 bd1993-06-19d2t08.flac:4937906d6ea949ef519e6fe3886295b2 bd1993-06-19d2t09.flac:2edc6a3be8a6f73e87e9c3ed55cfcec5 bd1993-06-19d2t10.flac:2c394b458cd104de9973b9460b4237ce
