Notes: THE BEACH BOYS - Everyone's In Love With You Recorded live in Melbourne, Australia - 1978 01 Everyone's In Love With You 02 All This Is That 03 Country Pie 04 Surfer Girl 05 Heroes And Villains 06 Help Me, Rhonda 07 God Only Knows 08 Wouldn't It Be Nice 09 I Get Around 10 Rock & Roll Music / Surfin' U.S.A. 11 You Are So Beautiful -------------------------------- Excerpt from Brian Wilson's autobiography 'Wouldn't It Be Nice' : "The new year, 1978, began with a three-week tour through Australia and New Zealand, which Steve Love arranged to satisfy the CBS contract. The tour was promoted by Pardine, a company owned by talk show host David Frost, who made one stipulation: I had to be on the tour. More important, he also demanded the band send him a letter indicating I was healthy enough to make the tour. It's ironic Frost was only concerned about me. At the time, Dennis was into heroin and Carl was coming off a long cocaine problem. On top of which nobody was really getting along too well. The tour was a bloody mess from the start. Dennis smuggled heroin into New Zealand, our first stop, then purchased another $100-worth in Melbourne, Australia, from one of David Frost's company's employees. I wouldn't have known of the score, except that one night I managed to shake Stan, Rocky, and Steve who continued to maintain a near twenty four hour vigil over me, and snorted the stuff with Dennis. The next day, the shit hit the fan. In a vocal meeting as volatile as an arms depot on fire, the guys insisted that Dennis be sent home, while Frost threatened to cancel the remaining dates and then sue the band if they did. Carl, trying to calm the turbulence by admitting his involvement in the purchase of the heroin, ended up getting punched in the face by Rocky. -------------------------------- Anyway, I think this is a great performance with nice sound quality as well. I imagine this gig took place before all of the problems. If I'm remembering what I've read elsewhere, David Frost was also threatened with a lawsuit during the tour once it came out that Dennis had obtained the drugs from one of his employees. After getting punched in the face, Carl went on a bit of a drinking bender...resulting in some poor performances on his part. He even passed out on stage one night if I'm remembering right. Really, the entire band was "off" for the rest of the tour. Dennis and Carl traveled separately from Mike and Al...even walking onstage from separate sides. Now add Brian (with his continuing mental problems) into the mix, and you really don't have the recipe for a strong performance. waakapoola
