| Notes: | Two source, stereo remaster A very special event, early in the Animals tour. This show was recorded by two known tapers, both with excellent equipment. For source 1, the master tape is not available but has been stored on vinyl records. Given the time limitations of this storage medium it appears that the show's recording was cut to fit the constraints of two LPs. Still, 89 minutes of the show is available. For source 2 we have the complete recording, including encore. This tape was recorded in mono rather than stereo. The two tapers seem to be in different locations. For example, some have described source 1 as mostly Roger's bass and keyboards while source 2 has been described as having a high mix of Dave's guitar and vocals. A fan can be heard blowing a whistle during the opening of Shine On You Crazy Diamond in source 1 but this can not be heard in source 2; strongly suggesting that the two tapers were separated by a significant distance. Given the outstanding quality of both recordings, the predominance of different instruments in each and the apparent separation of the two tapers, creating a stereo recording by merging both recordings seemed worthwhile. The performance is really solid throughout the show, and the sound can easily reach in the "Ex" spectrum, so I'd make this Ex. Some recordings don't include Sheep, but this one does although it sounds different from the rest of the tracks, a bit saturated at places I'd say. The whole thing seems a tad thin on the bass. I don't know if it's because of the positioning but there's a different feel to this show than others from the European leg. Second night of two gigs at the Frankfurt venue. Mastered to disc from a meticulously preserved vinyl source by Flynn of Man of Leisure Music (MoLM). Marbled grey and charcoal discs, first released in 1987 by Crazy Diamond Productions, and titled "Welcome to the Machine." Nice picture of Dave on the cover and Mr. Screen on the back. Components: Sony PS-LX250H turntable, running through a Sony STR-DE895 receiver with an optical connection to a Harman/Kardon CDR26 component burner. LP> PS-LX250H> STR-DE895> HK CDR26> EAC> SHN Comments: From the condition of the vinyl to the clarity and fullness of sound, this roio is a must for serious collectors of Pink Floyd's 1977 Animals Tour.
