Tracks 1 and 20 are from the blue-vinyl 12-inch LP single of the disco version Here Comes the Night (side 1 is the 10:32 extended mix, and side 2 is the instrumental version). Released in the fall of 1978. (Twenty-five years later, this isn?t nearly as bad as I remembered! )
Track 2 is the 45-single mix of Mike Love?s recording of Da Doo Ron Ron. The flip side features Dean Torrence only. The single is slightly different than the version on the Mike & Dean album. Released in 1982.
Track 3 is the longer version of It?s a Beautiful Day that is only available on the Americathon soundtrack LP.
Track 4 is a live version of Del Shannon?s Runaway. This reportedly was recorded in the fall of 1981 in Cleveland, and is found only on the Sunkist ? 25 years of Good Vibrations LP.
Track 5 is the Rip Chords (with Bruce Johnston on lead vocals) covering Sealed with a Kiss ? this is one of the better songs on the Mike (Love) & Dean (Torrence) LP, ?Rock ?n? Roll Again.? The LP was released in 1983. (Is this recording also on the ?Rock ?n? Roll City? cassette? If so, it dates to 1981?)
Track 6 is from the ?Up the Creek? soundtrack LP, from April 1984.
Track 7 is the somewhat obscure 45 of the Beach Boys with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Released in August 1984.
Track 8 is the 45-single mix of Male Ego (the flip side of Getcha Back), issued in May 1985.
Track 9 is the 45-single mix of Rock ?n? Roll to the Rescue, issued in June 1986. It features Roger McGuinn of the Byrds on the 12-string intro.
Tracks 10-11 are from the 45-single, released in August 1986.
Track 12-13 are from Brian Wilson?s 45-single, released in March 1987. The 45-single mix is different than the version of Let?s Go to Heaven in My Car found on the soundtrack LP.
Track 14 is credited to the Beach Boys but is generally considered to be Brian Wilson only. This is from the actual plastic flexi-disc that was released in 1987 with the ?California Barbie? doll.
Tracks 15-16 are from the ?Happy Endings? 45 released in November 1987. Good Vibrations is a live version, reportedly recorded July 4, 1987.
Track 17 is the Everly Brothers backed by the Beach Boys, from the Tequila Sunrise soundtrack, released in December 1988.
Track 18 is Brian Wilson?s contribution to the She?s Out of Control soundtrack, released in May 1989.
Track 19 is from an out-of-print Paul Shaffer CD and is a collaboration between Shaffer and Brian Wilson, released in 1989.
