Wilco
2004 A Ghost Is Born Tour Compilation
Source: Various Audience Recordings; Compiled & Remastered by "Lookout Joe" Stewart
A "time was just a joke" Production
ffp / Text / Seed: Josh Hall [December 2007]
ffp created with Trader's Little Helper. Files tagged with Live Show Tagger. Renamed tracks to etree standard.
The compilation starts at the New Port folk fest August 8 2004 only because that was the first show with the new line up of the band i was fortunate enough to attend and tape. North American tour didn't start proper until September 14 in Columbia, Mo, and ended in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 22, 2004. Salt Lake City is the only show not represented in this compilation, because a recording had not surfaced by the time the comp was ready for release. I'm still not sure it ever has surfaced. Every song Wilco played on this tour is included in this comp with the exception of "Remember the Mountain Bed" as it was only played in SLC.
Disc 1 & 2 are compiled as an average show's set list appeared during the tour; the songs were chosen accordingly and in chronological order.
Disc 3 is a collection of tour set list rarities.
Disc 4 includes cover songs played during the New Yeares Eve show at Madison Square Garden. The songs include covers by Judas Priest and the Captain & Tenille. The remainder of the disc are TV performances collected during the tour.

Notes:
The art was inspired by the Grammy winning cover art from the official release. The acoustic guitar that is being hatched out of the egg was taken from the instrument chapter of the Wilco book. My inspiration was because this new material is anything but acoustic driven, and is border-line punk rock. The acoustic guitar represents the birth of the ghost of Wilco past. There are two artwork versions. One will fit a four disc jewel and the other is for two, two disc jewels.
I would like to thank all the anonymous tapers who's recordings are represented here. Without the diligent work of fellow tapers this project could not exist.
Also, without the traders from Rust and Via Chicago sites it would have been rather difficult for me to collect the shows necessary to make the compilation complete. Thanks to a special few traders who hooked me up with multiple copies of needed shows, most of the time asking nothing in return! Irwin Gains, David Snively, Matt Bouchie, Mike Cordova, Paul Tomita, Tony Barreca, Ron Covall, Tom Crow, and Kyle McBroom. You guys are all outstanding traders and music fans, and I thank you.
"Lookout Joe" Stewart deserves a big thanks for his magic touch with editing software, and know how. His work in re-mastering the compilation, normalizing volume, and stitching together tracks from 33 different sources to make it flow like a single performance is amazing. When making copies please respect the editing and burn the shows DAO (NO gaps).
Please remember this collection is for trading only. Please don't profit from it. The only ones who should profit from the music are the artists themselves . Please respect and support the artists and don't buy or
sell this collection! And never encode to any lossy format!
I hope you will find this compilation one that you will be able to slide in your player hit play, smile, and reminisce about shows gone by.
