Notes: With REM being inducted into the Hall Of Fame tomorrow night, I thought I'd post the first time I saw and taped the boys from Georgia. This show took place in Oklahoma City in what was a converted church and was not a good place to see a show, not too mention taping a show. All general admission, if you didn't get there early to get a spot on the walkway that encircled the club above the floor you were banished to the general admission standing only floor. I taped this one from that general admission floor about 1/3 of the way back and it was a royal pain. The place was packed from front to back and needless to say moving about was out of the question. To even get a decent recording I had to hold the mic well above the crowd. At one point the mic was seen by a security guard from up above and he made a lot of frantic hand motions in my direction but for someone to get to me in the middle of that crowd was virtually impossible. By the time the show was over they either forgot or decided it wasn't worth the trouble. So here we have REM on one night in a packed, brutally hot club in OKC and as I recall Stipe spent the better part of the show with his back to the audience. Sample below, not the best of my recordings due to the horrible recording conditions but I know there are a few REM collectors hanging around so wanted to make sure the master was out there. I've already shared my Dallas '86 recording, I taped them a couple more times in the mid-80's that will be shared down the way. Enjoy and welcome to the Hall Of Fame gents! Mjk5510
