Notes: Skeleton Crew Taller Latino Cafe NYC November 5 1983 Aud>Sony TCS310>Cass>Peak>Xact>shn Fred Frith Guitar etc Tom Cora Cello etc Transferring this from tape brought back a lot of memories.......This show was held to raise awareness and money for a large protest in Washington DC, the following weekend. Quite a lot of the downtown musos and their fans were members of an organization called CISPES, (Commitee in solidarity with the people of El Salvador) little did we know at the time that the Reagan administration considered us Communist agitators and was monitoring the comings and goings of CISPES members, and that if you were to attend a Skeleton Crew or Bob Ostertag gig at this time, more than likely, you were photographed or had your license plate recorded by the FBI. Several million taxpayer dollars were spent on this program, and subsequent FOI(Freedom of Information Act) inquiries and lawsuits revealed that many of us had FBI files, based solely on our opposition to the administrations not-so-secret,and completely illegal support of the Salvadoran Death Squads. (Anyone interested in the background of this time can google on "CISPES" or "School Of The Americas".) But enough of the politics of my youth.....onto the music........ This is a terrific show performed before an audience of friends and the faithful. Fred and Tom were both in a very silly mood, and as you can hear from all the laughing and giggling, so was the audience. Even though they manage to screw-up a few times, and have the usual technical difficulties involved when 2 guys attempt to play 8 or 9 different instruments, this show was one of the first I remember where they really nailed some of these tunes as a duo. And no...........I do not have any recordings of Fred & Tom's marching band from the Washington protest.
