This was my first ever recording. I built my mic set at the last minute, and at 2am Friday morning it fell apart and I finally gave up and decided I'd use the internal mics on my Edirol r09. Actually, I think it came out very well to tell you the truth.
And I tried to hard to get a soundboard recording. I asked the Radio-Canada dudes if I could plug into the external audio feed from their camera, which was in the soundboard, but they said i had to ask the sound crew. I sucked up the courage and did it, and the dude said he didn't care but pointed to a security guard in the fenced area and said he'll kick me out without a media pass. I asked him how I could get one and he replied to either call the organizer ahead of time or try to "borrow" one. I thought about it for a while and tried to buy the use of one from one of the Radio Canada dudes. I offered him $40 to keep and my cellphone as collateral (it's a 2 day festival so he would have needed it today), but he said he also needed it during the SP set too. I figured because there were 4 other guys with him that he was only rejecting my offer, but they ended up only recording three or four songs then fucking off somewhere. who knows, perhaps he would have considered it if the group was just going to be in the same place all night.
This was recorded respecting the Pumpkins open taping policy. Cheers to oinkbanana, whom I randomly met after the show, Colin, who decided 30 mins before the bus left that he was going to come with me to Montreal, and Pat, who does the greatest Bill Clinton impersonation you can imagine, and not only because they're both dirty liberals. :)
Cheers guys. |
