El Septimo de Caballeria
Label: Superball Catalogue: #SR005
Duration: 65 minutes
Year Of Release: 2005
"COMMENT: Unlike most other releases of this Spanish TV broadcast, this is the complete recording with interviews by Spanish celebrities intertwined with Prince's performance. As everything is spoken in Spanish, Superball has kindly provided us with a choice of English or French (or none) subtitles too - which to the best of my knowledge is a first for bootleg DVD's. The DVD begins with various intro's and clips before the menu has even been reached and it is evident from the start there has been a lot of time, effort and thought put in to this release. The quality throughout is extremely high and certainly far superior to Ladybird's pressed 'Nulle Part Ailleurs / Septimo' release of late 2004. The colours are more evenly balanced, much more realistic and the sound is vastly more powerful. The show itself contains 2 of the best performances from the various 1999 promotional TV appearances in the form of 'Prettyman' and the extraordinary 'Motherless Child' - certainly a candidate for my favourite ever TV performance from Prince. In between these performances we have various Spanish celebs airing their views on Prince. With the exception of Carlos Santana they are all unknown to me, and I can only presume Prince didn't give his approval beforehand as there are a fair number of negative comments among the usual praise. One language always translates differently to another so the subtitles provided don't always make perfect sense in English, but it is an accurate translation of what they are saying in their native Spanish. The menu's and intro for the DVD are certainly amongst the most professional I've seen on a fan release so far and Superball should be commended for the effort put in to this, along with the list of other people in the credits for their combined efforts. A new twist on previously seen footage is always welcome, and that's exactly what this DVD does." |
