comments:
this is one of 3 TH 83 shows I wanted to offer, in this one the
power generator that ran all the stage lights blew out, so they
took a break (I think it was supposed to be after the next song
anyway) and played the second set in the dark. This must have
been an interesting show, and nearly the full length set (the
Providence 10/6/83 one was about 5 minutes longer), apparently
the power for the amps and sound was not affected, since this
sounds pretty good for a hockey arena concert. When you think
of places big bands of rock play in Massachusetts, you think
of Boston, Worcester, Mansfield (Great Woods/ now the Tweeter
Center), Amherst and Foxboro (Gillette Stadium), but Billerica???
They did not play any of the above locales (that I know of) on
this tour, just Providence and Billerica and Cape Cod Coliseum,
all of which I was going to share here on the dime. the CCC was
posted in a better quality already by another uploader, and the
Providence show was also uploaded from another source in a good
quality. This one is the lone remaining 83 Heads show I have that
is not yet posted on dime. Thanks to Purple Moon Productions,
nice job with the recording of this. I believe it is all here,
without interruption. I'd forgotten what a good tour this was, at
least these 3 shows of it, so near where it all started for
Talking Heads in the 1970's. The Providence one I have is a SMP
(Stud Muffin Production, as in D-5 source) but this one has a
little clearer path between stage and mike and everything comes
through clearly. A lesser band would have packed it in after a 40
minute set if they lost all the stage lights, but Talking Heads
have always been a bit daring, here they don't let a lighting failure
cut their lone Central Mass. area concert short. Why they chose to
play here, who knows, TH may be the only band anybody's ever heard
of to play the Billerica Forum. I don't think there was an opening act.
they meant to play 2 sets anyway, and they did, this break just came
a little earlier than planned. It was a nice inspired concert.
Do not sell this recording.
