Robert Walter Trio
July 22, 2008
Yoshi's Oakland
with James Singleton (bass)
& Johnny Vidacovich (drums)
Early & Late Shows
Taper: James Welborn
Location: Front lip of stage
Source: Zoom H2 (omni)
Recording: 24bit/48hkz
Transfer: Peak Pro, also @ 24/48
Conversion: Xact level 5
This trio is simply a joy to hear. I went with the intention of just catching the early show, but as is Yoshi's policy, there weren't that many people there (a shame) so they let me stay for the 2nd show as well. Best $16 I have spent in a very long time. Robert is always a remarkable B3 and Rhodes player. But in the company of the absolutely fantastic James Singleton on standup bass and the equally inventive Johnny Vidacovich on drums, it's one of the most 'musical' trios I've seen in quite some time. There was one other taper there who used better gear to record the early show (16 bit), and he said he will be posting as well. If you want both sets, this is probably the only source.
This is simply two tracks, recorded at 24bit -- early show and late. iTunes, if you aren't aware, will play 24bit files. And if you have a 24bit DAC, they sound very good indeed. Cheers. |
