An absolutely amazing treasure trove of X footage, including live television performances, interviews, promotional videos, and odds and ends. It's obvious someone compiled a VHS from various sources and transferred it to DVD much later, so both the audio and video fidelity varies throughout the disc, running from the A- to C range. All of the live stuff is pro-shot, but it has definately aged, and some of the stuff is pretty high-gen. There are also some tracking flaws from the original VHS source and a definate analog presence. The quality generally improves as the disc goes on. You have to be forgiving with this one, for sure, but I loved watching this. There's not a lot of X footage floating around from this era (everything on here is from about '78 to '88), and this disc captures both the early manic intensity of the band's formative years and the strange shift of their 80's work (just check out John's mesh nipple shirt). So many highlights here it's hard to know where to get specific, but a really early Letterman performance is an awesome treat, seeing the band perform on a Rick Dees top 40 show is a trip, and the on-the-beach promotional video for Burning House Of Love is surreal. Any serious fan will find tons of rad stuff on here (I didn't even know they HAD any traditional music videos). So so amazing, even when it's awful. I feel blessed to have found this. |
