Bob Dylan/Helena Springs
Rundown Studio
Santa Monica, CA
October 1979/fall 1980
1. Tell Me The Truth One Time
2. The Wandering Kind
3. Responsibility
4. Radio advertisement (fall 1980)
Another installment of Dylan arcana. The first three tracks are demos of songs written by Dylan and Helena Springs, with Springs on vocals and Dylan said to be on piano. Dylan has never released any of these songs or performed them in concert; Paul Buttefield released a cover of "The Wandering Kind."
The final track is a radio advertisement for Dylan's Nov 26 1980 San Diego concert, noteworthy for including the only circulating recordings from Dylan's fall 1980 tour rehearsals, including fragments from "Blowin' In The Wind," "Mr. Tambourine Man," and "Gotta Serve Somebody." If I remember correctly, Heylin has reported that the master reels for these recordings were erased/destroyed in the mid-1990s at the direction of Dylan's office.
I've edited the final track slightly; it's an off-air recording of the ad, complete with DJ leadout and the first two seconds of a Fleetwood Mac track. I've shaved the official moments off the end; the recording is now Tusk-less. |
