A lot of my local friends play there. Sometimes national acts, esp. if they were blues artists. I think John is happy that he is playing in front of 3000 or so, compared to 600. Ironically, this is mostly the place I saw him in the years that followed, before I moved. All thanks to CJ for sharing this! This show has barely circulated. Heck, I never knew of it's existence until just a few days ago. It has never in FLAC format, until now. I can't believe it! So excited to find this! I was at this, at the ripe age of 19. It was my first time seeing Mayall (looking in a bar room window, under age, doesn't count.), and we were so happy to have that chance. At the time, I thought it would have been the only time, because back then you thought musicians would retire by their 60's. Of course, this now has been proven pretty untrue. Since then I have seen him 6 or 7 times since this show, and got to hang with him a few times. Yet this is when we were fresh and silly from high school. We loaded up the car, smoked quite a bit of herb (since we weren't legal age...hahaha.) and got there completely, yet delightfully, out of our young minds. My friends were chanting "Coco! Coco!" in the car, hopeful he would shine. I didn't know who he was, and yes, I found out mighty fast! He didn't let us down. Sadly,We were very happy to find our seats were right in front of him. So perfect! Sadly, because he played SO LOUD, he suffers a bit in the mix. The recording isn't the complete show. At least I don't think so. I do remember a very short set break, about 10 minutes, for some of my friends went out for a cigarette. I believe it was around 30 minutes longer. However, they did get the last 2 songs, "Dyin' Flu" and "Room To Move", which surely were the highlights of the show. Whew. The Guthrie was (still exists, but it moved, much to the anger of most people, incl. myself) a world famous venue. Minneapolis has a terrible sense of historic places, of which continues to this day. Guthrie was usually reversed for high brow theater. A perfectly shaped room, that even if you had the worst seat in the house, you would still hear everything clear and see the stage fine. I never thought I would ever see a recording of a show that I still, 24 years later, still have great memories of. Much less as an excellent soundboard! Early 90's, with the releases of "Chicago Line", and "A Sense Of Place", found Mayall returned to a fine form, after releasing only fair albums in most of the 80's. At least, that's how I see it.
