This one has circulated for years with bad info and from an older transfer that was only half the recording. The recording is not a mono recording and is not sourced from a reel as has been reported for years now. This is the first(and probably the last) time the masters have been directly digitized as high resolution audio, June 2011. It is a very good recording for what it is and an upgrade to any and all particular variations on this recording that circulate. The recording has been mastered for general circulation since the tape had a lot issues to be dealt with to get it into a listenable and presentable form. This was one of the first recordings 'J' would ever make. The actual model of the recorder and mics has been forgotten with time but the key feature and reason for 'J' starting out with this particular recorder was the fact you could adjust the record volume levels without using VU meters. Also included with this fileset is a picture of the actual master cartridges for documentation purposes.

Notes: Source: AUD Lineage: Reel Master (Lloyd 8-track rec. w/ext Lloyd mic.) > VHS(1) > DAT(2) > CDr > EAC > WAV > FLAC Mustardpie's notes: I acquired this show from Presence's R-O tracker in September 2004, torrented by Dadgad. Included in the original info file were these notes: "Raw untouched transfer, some VHS little disturbing in places. [not from Motor City Daze???] Very Good AUD recording." There are dropouts at a few places, and Rock and Roll cuts in. From the description of the various bootleg releases of this show, the question about whether this source is from Motor City Daze is based on the dropouts being left as is without the cuts found in the other bootleg releases. Here is the Bootledz.com title comparison: 7-12-73 Detroit Rock City (Lemon Song), Motor City Daze (Antrabata), & Rock and Roll Ever (Akashic) Aside from missing the first 1.5 seconds from the beginning of the tape, Motor City Daze most closely represents the full tape. The sound is good and clear on this title but the sound level is much lower than the other releases. Lemon Song's title has those first couple of seconds that Antrabata is missing but contains edits at almost every location of tape problem (cuts & drops). Moby Dick has been further reduced, eliminating some taper commentary. The sound is clear and bright. Akashic's title fills in the missing parts of Rock and Roll and The Song Remains the Same from a different, unmentioned, show of the same tour - 6-2-73. In doing this, 7-8 seconds have been displaced from the Cobo tape. This title also has edits at almost every location of tape problems, removing almost another 3 seconds. The length of tape after No Quarter, Moby Dick, and Communication Breakdown, have all been extended. There is a 4 second section of tape after No Quarter that gets repeated 3 more times. After Moby Dick, approximately 26 seconds of tape is borrowed from after Dazed. For Communication Breakdown, there is a 2.5 second section of tape after the song that gets repeated 8 times. The tape from 6-2-73 and the 60 seconds of repetitions have been added to make listening to this show (which show?) more "enjoyable." The sound is similar to Lemon Song's title but has more of the lower end frequencies as opposed to Lemon's middle to higher frequencies.
