Notes: Recorded live at Madison Square Garden, New York, USA on 27th-29th July 1973 --- When the original soundtrack was released in 1976, it featured only two thirds of the whole live set and sound quality and editing was far from perfect. Even Jimmy Page was not so pleased with the result and have not remastered it in the early 90's promising to completely recreate it in the future. In 2003, the Led Zeppelin DVD was released which features Madison Square Garden 1973 segment with four tracks, two of which have never been released previously on any format. In 2007, a Special Edition of The Song Remains The Same movie with completely remixed soundtrack and videos of all other songs from the live set as bonus material was finally released. New remixed edition of OST was also released, which includes complete live set list. But most of the songs which were edited for the movie are presented here in the same form. Even the old 1976 OST has unedited pieces of these songs. Overall sound is very warm and friendly for ears, but overproduced VST effects has completely destroyed some parts of the tracks. It needs to say the soundtrack recreation work was done with fair quality and care. Great opportunity to present this live recording in full its glory was lost... again. This compilation was made to compensate the lack of attention and care on original recording from the creators of both official releases. The main aim is to create the longest and most complete soundtrack from all officially released live material recorded at these 3 shows at Madison Square Garden. The result is extra 6 minutes in comparison with duration of 2007 remixed CD reissue. There are four sources were used to compile this version: 1) 1976 OST CD source 2) 2003 Led Zeppelin DVD LPCM stream 3) 2007 OST CD reissue 4) 2007 TSRTS DVD reissue LPCM stream 2007 OST CD reissue source was used as a bulk. All other sources were used for patches and fixes. 1976 OST CD source was speed corrected to match the speed of 2007 remix source. 1976 OST CD source and 2003 Led Zeppelin DVD LPCM stream were equalized to match the sound of remix as close as possible. Main fixes: 1. Black Dog: hugely edited version was removed with LZ DVD version from 28th July 1973. 2. No Quarter: edited piece was restored from 1976 CD OST source. 3. The Ocean: the song was moved to the right place in the set as the second encore. 4. Rain Song: extended audience cheering after the song was restored from the 2007 TSRTS DVD LPCM stream for proper ending of CD1. 5. Dazed And Confused: timing anomaly due to poor editing around 23:00 was repaired using 1976 OST CD source. 6. Moby Dick: the whole poorly edited and effects-overproduced drum solo section was replaced with the one on 1976 OST CD source. 7. Whole Lotta Love: edited 'The Crunge' section was replaced with complete version from 1976 OST CD source.
