Transcribers Notes:

1. The quality of these tapes far exceed the multi gen versions that have circulated since the late 70's.  These came from DATS that were procured in 1995/1996 and were originally played back on a Fostex D-10 DAT recorder and recorded to CD using an standalone hhb-800 CD-r.    For purists, I would strongly suggest moving D2.T2 thru D2.D4 to D4 (after UJB).    

2. Some of the Track Markings can be better maintained.  Somebody might want to retrack.

3. "To Patch or not to Patch - that be the question".  There are at-best below-average audience recordings that can be used to patch.  It was decided it was not worth the effort to paste in an inferior source to such a fine SBD.

11/11/2002 barton hall you are correct about the track markers needing improvement. several songs start several seconds before the track marker. 10 second dropout at end of d3t01. setlist errors: d3t02 is continuation of space. d3t03 is wharf rat>space. dead air tuning segments should come at end of previous track, not at beginning, so that when one plays a song they don't have to go through 1 minute of dead air before the song starts. seekable shn's would have been appreciated also. d2t02 to d2t04 should definitely be moved to end of d4 where they belong. why weren't they in the first place? you only have to rename the tracks, and edit the md5 to match. aside from that, the sound quality is great.

http://db.etree.org/shninfo_detail.php?shnid=222 sounds just as good, it's patched, and has a complete Uncle John's.

I think I just answered my own question.

05/11/2005 Deadhead This seed is no different in sound quality than the other version of 10/16/74. By viewing these files with Cool Edit Pro's spectral view one can clearly see that both recordings come from the same source.

The lineage in the info is incorrect, the source for the most recently circulated DAT is:
Soundboard -> Master Reel -> Reel -> Cassette -> DAT

All in all this seed might be considered a downgrade from shnid 222 due to the missing songs due to the lack of AUD patching.
