Here is a comment left by Keith Boden on the torrent page for this show. (http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=6117) "I'm the guy that taped the first set and can answer the questions about the source. I was working at a recording studio in Franklin, TN called the Castle. We had a new portable Sony DAT player and a Crown PZM mic that we were trying out as an overhead mic on drum sets. My buddy and I got permission to borrow both the DAT and the mic (regretably we decided against bringing the U-87's, don't hate me please). Anyhoo. We got to the show set up like mad but managed to miss them rolling up in the cart. Unfortunately, this DAT player had a special battery and we only had one. It made it through the first set and a couple song into the second before dying. We were really pissed. so now the source... Turns out a Crown PZM mic isn't the best for recording. The sound was good but not great. I took my dat and ran it through 2 channels of an SSL console (it's a $750,000 top of the line recording console), aside from that I also ran it through an analog API eq to add some warmth and then through a Pultec tube compressor to keep it all level. We put it all back on DAT and it sat in my closet for about 10 years until Robert Brown contacted me about a transfer. After listening to it once it was transferred I realized that it had slightly degraded in sound quality, mainly in the low end. Regardless it's a pretty undercircuilated show and I'm pretty happy to have my name on it. I hope you enjoy it. ~Keith" |
