Seeder's notes: The Sonny Rollins discography on the Jazz Discography Project page doesn't list "Oleo" among the songs performed 1/15/63. The bootleg CD's notes indicates that while most of the material came from the Salle Pleyel concert, "some" (?) tracks came from concerts from around the same period. It seems likely, then, that these tracks represent more than one show and possibly more than one venue. The timings and titles on the bootleg CD are all messed up; the above represents what is actually here, as far as I can tell. The two versions of "Sonnymoon" are very different. A second set of material, some of which may also be from 1/15/63, has been issued as a bootleg.
Some context: Rollins had recorded some live material with Cherry in July 1962 which has been legitimately issued in various forms by RCA. They toured Europe the following winter, and some of that tour has been issued on various bootlegs (this being the only one I have). |
