E: Amazing Grace *=acoustic mini-stage setup #Notes# To cover the first minute of the FM source for SOAM when the radio DJ was making the station announcement, I used the AUD source that was previously used to cover the entire song. I tried to make this transition as easy on the ears as possible, making the change as close to a "dead spot" as possible. The only "glitch" so to speak on this copy was a fast dropout in David Bowie just before the fast triplet notes at the end (approximately @ 10:29.856). Doing a time based edit (based on the time signature) I did the edit to the best of my abilities, and although it is not perfect it is better than hearing the "crunch" of the dropout....Other than that, this is a flawless representation of the concert.... Wavmerge was used to reassemble the tracks back to 1 long wave. CEP2.0 was used to align & synch both of the sources. CEP2.0 used to adjust the volume for the SBD & AUD. Soundforge 8.0 was used to convert the sample rate from 44.1 to 48k. CEP was used to do the multitrack mixdown to 24/48. DiscWelder was used to author and create the DVD-Audio in 24/48. DVD Decryptor read and created the ISO image file. This incorporates 2 channels of 24/96 wave files. This is a 65% SBD, 35% AUD mix - Mixed by [email protected] - FLAC conversion done 01-JAN-2006 - Artwork at 300dpi by [email protected] - For best results print at the highest resolution onto glossy photo paper. Design for use with a clear slim DVD case (inner and outer DVD artwork included). This represents the 24 bit files that are the result of all my editing and the multitrack mixdown preserved in 24 bit. It is unclear exactly what we have in the way of high resolution. However it seems what we have here would not be represented accurately in 16/44. What you are getting is the full result of the matrix mix process. How much different does this sound? is this better? A little and yes. This is more accurate and has more dynamic range. 24/48 resolution versus a 16/44 of the same material will usually result in very subtle but important differences. Most of it relying on the quality of the DVD-A player and the D to A conversion. With that in mind, this 24 bit copy is no different. Small but important gains over the same material in 16/44. This is just one man's take. Take it or leave it. --------------------------------------------------------- Notes (new approach) The SBD source had some sector boundary issues. At every track change there was approx. 0.025 seconds of music dropped. This although completely inaudible, made things difficult to synch. I had the option to either trim the exact same amount from the AUD or "add" the missing portion with a patch from either the SBD or the AUD. In the end I did a combination of all 3. Because this is only a fraction of a second edit the patches are smooth and completely undetectable. This is interesting, check your SBD copies. This SBD source was mysteriously missing approx 1min 56sec of Davied Bowie. This was done with a very clever splice. I went ahead and patched this missing portion with a DAT SBD copy I have had for years. I applied 6 second crossfades at each end. This patch is smooth and most likely undetectable. Besides the missing material in the middle of the jam in David Bowie the is a source change at approx 10min 35sec. This source is sitill SBD but much more "narrow" although still stereo. I went ahead and patched this with my DAT SBD copy. Under very close scrutiny this source switch may be detectible. Split Open and Melt uses 3 diffent sources, all in the very first minute. It starts off with approx 37 seconds from an FM DAT source some kind unknown person sent me a year or so ago. Then switches to approx 25 seconds of a 2 AUD source matrix mix. This AKG source plus the AUD source that originally patch the whole first minute. Then at approx 1min 3sec it switches to the FM DAT source to complete the song. These source switches are obvious to the listener but is not in jarring or disruptive. Several second crossfades were used btwn sources to make the transitions as smooth as possible I applied a gradual step up increase of +8db to the SBD and the AUD sources on the acoustic numbers in set 2. Then a gradual step down to the original recording levels. This is so you can enjoy the acoustic numbers without increasing the volume and then blowing your speakers when Mike's Song starts. This entire show can be rejoined seamlessly on longer media. Included is a folfer of JPEGs. These are images associated with this show and the dates 8/16 and 8/17/96. I have included these for use in creating and authoring your own DVD-Audio if you choose. --------------------------------------------------------- Additional Formats This show is available in the following formats: 1.
