the Fake Tape (K096) |
Notes: |
Les Kokay says, " It should have been in the bin, but it has survived.
This tape circulated many years ago. At the time there were no Santa Monica tapes in circulation and this one was claimed to be 18 Nov 1979. It was later discredited and became known as the 'fake tape'. It is dreadful quality and funs fast. I think most of Dylan's spoken comments have been edited out so it makes identification difficult. I haven't identified the source (or sources), so you might like to have a go."

LB-7037 JTT; I assume this is LB-1819 which was also released by Thin Man as "Live By Faith". Both suffer, from the same bad joins which spoil an otherwise excellent audience recording., SOURCE: Data DVD (FLACS) > FLAC Frontend > Soundforge 8* >, FLAC Level 6 Align on sector boundaries, *Remove Bad Joins, Fade Discs In & Out, Clean-Up & 300dpi Artwork by JTT, 2008; bittorrent download 12/08; same recording as bootleg LB-4848 based on same clapping wavs at end of d1t4 with same levels and wav and spectral view; the tape flip drop at end of d1t9 is removed on this one; this has same very small discontinuities like near the beginning of d1t7 except now no longer as close to track boundaries since they were shifted on this one; (did not listen to all of this) |

Original Thinman CD -> WAV (EAC) -> FLAC (flacfrontend) -> You
Civic Auditorium, Santa Monica, California
November 18th 1979
Quality:
Excellent Audience - impressive!
(Recorded by Legendary taper E; and later pressed to bootleg by the "Thinman" label) |

Notes: |
Offmaster copy of audience recording by Legendary Taper E, complete with the songs by the
backup singers. Apparently a different source from "Madmen Running Loose", which lacks all
the "girls'" songs. (The "Gospel Project" mentions the "rumored" existence of this
complete recording of the concert; obviously it was not just a rumor.) |
