Notes: Four alive in Ohio Return to Forever Chick Corea- keyboards Al DiMeola- guitars Stanley Clarke- bass Lenny White- drums Kenyon College, Ohio October 12, 1974 performance quality: A- recording quality: B to B+ source: soundboard tape (low-gen,unknown lineage) setlist disc 1: 62:24 1: band introductions and tuning 2: beyond the seventh galaxy 3: vulcan worlds 4: the shadow of lo 5: song to the pharoah kings disc 2: 67:57 6: space circus 7: acoustic jam and solos, in order: (Corea, DiMeola, Clarke, White) > theme to the mothership comments: I got this in a snail trade many years ago from a fellow in Ohio. The recording is pretty good, the mix is a little off in parts, a little distorted in parts, pretty clear in most parts. (Alot of these RTF college gigs have strange mixing, see my Worcester 2/1/74 show for more evidence of that) White and Corea come through clearly throughout, Clarke and DiMeola's mix varies a little more. Track 7 is about 48 minutes long. This is one of the longer RTF shows I've heard with Al DiMeola. It is a very good performance. Vulcan Worlds is 22 minutes +. The only tape flip interruption comes just after the acoustic jam, just before theme to the mothership starts the first group segment. You may not even notice the splice. Beyond the 7th galaxy is only about 3 min. (this is not very unusual) all the other songs are much longer. It sounds like this recording comes from an all normal bias/eq setting tape lineage. (this does tend to help preserve the clarity of a normal-bias/EQ recording, which all analog tapes were until high bias tape came out circa later 70's, whereas an all high-bias tape lineage helps to keep tape noise down and bass response good.) do not sell this recording. Trade freely and losslessly. Then there will be Al to go around when the lights (or life itself) grow dim(eola).
