Notes: DV617 Danny Gatton Band The Roxy Washington, D.C. February 1, 1986 NTSC DVD Duration: 1:53:55 Notes: Here's a nice monitor shoot of a Danny Gatton gig at the Roxy Club, formerly the Saba Club and recently a restaurant. I'd say it's probably from a first generation copy, although I'm not certain since I got this in trade. It came with a menu providing basic navigation but no song titles, which is no surprise since instrumentals are tough and with Danny even tougher since he was liable to play anything at any moment. My attempted setlist below isn't complete and I'd welcome any help - I'm terrible with instrumental song titles, too. This gig is a little different since Danny had Ralph McDuffie as guest on tenor sax - you can hear Evan mistakenly say "Roger McDuffie," who is Ralph's sax-playing brother. I was confused by that at first myself. Anyway, Ralph is on the original recording of "Harlem Nocturne" from "American Music" so it's nice to hear him play it at this show. Other guests, who show up for the last two tunes, are Evan Johns and Tom Principato, who probably need no introduction if you are a fan of this music. Tom is sporting a black Tele baritone, which Danny ends up playing during the last tune. Makes me wonder if that was in any way the inspiration for Danny's later Fender Custom Shop double neck guitar/baritone, which you can see on page 211 of the Teagle & Sprung book "Fender Amps - The First 50 Years" if you happen to have a copy. I have also included a couple of articles in the torrent, hope you enjoy reading them. Commercial Availablility: To my knowledge none of this material has ever been commercially available on video or DVD. A Plea: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, let's have no discussion about the manner of Danny's death. Some folks seem to have a ghoulish need to discuss it whenever any Danny torrents come up. Focus on the great music he left us instead! If you want to see any more Danny stuff from me, that is...
