Flaws/Notes:
d1t04 Second That Emotion light tick @ 4:22
d1t05 My Funny Valentine light crackles
(volume reduced by Sean Cribbs) just before
patch, @ 6:01, 6:04-6:06.  These were present on the unpatched version as well.
d2t02-03 pop just before track marker
d2t06 Lonely for Me (master?) anomalies @ 10:36-11:04
d2t06 Lonely for Me cuts out
d2t07 It's No Use cuts in, not much missing
d3t04 Like a Road crackles @ 1:17, 1:24, 1:43, 3:02, 2:03-2:05, 2:14
d3t05 Mystery Train cut/splice @ 3:11
d4t05 C.C. Rider guest vocalist, maybe Roger Troy?

Additional Notes:
Variable speed problems throughout, though absent
those problems (which really aren't that distracting)
this is an excellent recording.  I will not note specific
speed-related anomalies in these flaw notes.

This is tracked and noted as a three-set show, consistent
with the taper's recollection and notations.  However, it
seems at least possible that this material derives from two
separate shows, either from 1/17 and 1/18 or from early and
late shows on the 18th.  First, the show is longer in terms
of sets and minutes than just about any other Garcia & Saunders
show on record. Second, Finders Keepers, Think, the "sure is quiet
for Berkeley" comment, and Are You Lonely For Me Baby? have
circulated since at least 1990 with a date of 1/17 (albeit
1973, which seems clearly incorrect).  Third, the tuning break
during "set III" (disc four) has two separate audience members
calling for songs that appear earlier on this recording
(Finders Keepers and Second That Emotion).  While it seems unlikely
that two separate audience members would have forgotten
what had been played only an hour or two earlier and/or
requested that a song be repeated, some who attended shows at the
Keystone suggest that, with all of the comings and goings (etc.),
it might have been possible.  Ultimately, we will
probably never know, but this material rocks nonetheless!

06/17/2002 Sean Cribbs I reduced the volume of the pops prior to the patch in My Funny Valentine, however I was not able to eliminate them entirely. The patch begins during the "Tiger" fanning around the 16:18 mark. Not much was missing from the beginning of Finders Keepers, perhaps just the first few notes.
06/17/2002 Joe Jupille Thanks, Sean. I forgot to note the patch at the start of Finders Keepers, but it is now done. Re: the crackles, I wanted to make sure that it was documented that these were not introduced in the patching process. Oh yeah, great job!
04/05/2003 Joe Jupille Turns out this is indeed a composite of 1/17/74 and 1/18/74, as follows:

Keystone Berkeley 1/17/74: I: Someday Baby, La-la, I Second That Emotion, My Funny Valentine, Who's Lovin' You Tonight; II: Finders Keepers, Think, Are You Lonely For Me Baby, The Harder They Come

Keystone Berkeley 1/18/74: I: It's No Use, Expressway, Roadrunner, Like A Road, Mystery Train, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down; II: The Harder They Come, Wonderin Why, C.C. Rider (w/ female vocalist) [set is incomplete on this tape].

Thanks to Jim Powell for sorting this out for me!
04/06/2003 Sean Cribbs Thanks for straightening this mess out, Joe. It looks like Harder They Come is missing from 1/17/74. In addition, it looks like the Dick's Gift material should really be labelled 1/17/74, not 1/18/74.
06/29/2003 Joe Jupille Lineage updated to reflect current understanding of mic/deck setup.
