A FRESH Matt Smith 24bit 96kHz Reel Transfer
January 2010

Note this is a fresh transfer and differs from shnid 84446
The 84446 transfer saw the Apogee limiter being pushed hard
to make CDR's

This transfer was purposely meant to capture the dynamics
of the recording and to master and release a 24 bit file set.


Lineage notes from Pat Lee:
"The MR was recorded half track at 7.5 IPS which I believe is the
format used for Nagra decks. The playback deck we used was a
Sony TC-388 reel which in 4 track mode plays back both tracks even
though it uses a 1/4 track methodology. The 1/4 track head does
not fully capture the width of a 1/2 track recording thus not
maximizing the transfer possibilities. We should have used a half-track
machine even though we did not have access to one and were also
dealing with some time pressure."

Lineage notes from Matt Smith:
"The lineage goes:4 track MR@ 71/2 ips.>1/4 track Revox A77(black Maxell
UDXLII reel tape)@7 1/2 ips.  Both Will Boswell and Pat Lee dubbed
these at the same time back in 1979.  Quite a score back then i'd say!!  
You can HEAR all the bandmembers grinnin' from ear to ear!!"
