Notes: | One of the all time greats. Reason 1 - NFA that closes set 1. You're expecting them to hold back a bit because it is only the first set but no, the jam starts with a nice repetitive buildup. Instead of throttling back Garcia keeps charging ahead. Sounds like a China Cat tease as they segue into GDTRFB. Reason 2 - Is there a better version of Truckin' out there? Is this the definitive Truckin > TOO > DEW or what (12/31/72 very similar). the way the DEW theme is introduced subtely in the quiet jam as TOO dissolves is great. Here's my pathetic attempt at a description. Silence is used as 7th instrument incredibly well. Keith and Jerry come out of the quiet space slowly, tension builds very high as these two dance around each other's riffs, then it slows down a tad before building the tension to a higher faster peak which dissipates as everyone joins together for a landing into DEW. You gatta hear it to believe it.

Notes: | sbd - hollister best as of 11/02 [2006-03-01] My opinion of this show is not as gushingly positive as my prior review, after hearing almsot all shows performed in 72. Set 1 starts slow, with a rather ho-hum deliver, your tuning breaks. The NFA > GDTRFB > NFA set 1 closer, though unique (only time it happened in set1?), its isn't a spectacular compared to other versions. The PITB is noted in the compendium as the first to break with the song's normal time signature, but again, there are many better versions in 72. The Truckin' still remains the best version of this song with the great prelude jam that appeared on E72. The parts of TOO before Morning Dew that were not on E72 are not essential, sort of wankewry and meandering. The wrap up after Dew is nice. The postlude jam before Dew is still one of the great jams IMO. Because of the great sound and unique jams I'd give set 2 a must hear ranking while you could skip set 1 and not be missing anything essential.

Notes: | flac16; SBD Reel > DAT > TASCAM DA-20 (S/PDIF out) -> LynxTWO-B Audio Reference Interface (S/PDIF in) -> Wavelab 6.0 All editing and mastering by Jamie Waddell on the GEMS Edit Station. Trac'ed Cdwave,Flac'ed TLH level 8 [2008-02-11]Purported upgrade in sound quality from what circ'd before. Didn't compare for myself. Great show, though over time I can understand why the bass solo was cut from the E72 release. BOAT Truckin' IMO.
