Tulum (5/0) FLAC / 28 View   Stereo SBD trade tape TDK SA 90
Notes: This comes from a tape trade source, not off any boot LP / CD. I got this either from a friend at a local record shop, or at the Hillside Inn (Rosemont, IL) record swaps. Or, looking at the TDK SA tape, it may well have come from (Chicago area guy) Zorch Enterprises. - - - - I downloaded 2 tunes ("Action" and "Baby I") from that previous seeding off a vinyl LP. This tape seems to blow the doors off that, and so I figured I'd share it with you folks. Some of you that have these other versions, please comment as to how this'un compares overall. - - - - This is hissy, but it still sounds miles better than the previous boot share. And tho there's an az issue for the first 2 seconds, it's clean sailing after that & a fine listen. There's a lot more detail present in this version, & it's much more clear. - - - - Alrighty, the R.E.M. timeline helped me figure out the titles for this gig. And I think my tape helped clarify the running setlist for the timeline. There was some debate - ? should Burning Down be second or not ? This tape source has ONE long continuous segment right from when track 1 Rave On cuts in, right thru to the end of the first set. Back in 2003 I sent in some samples of the musiq around Burning & that helped to get the listing ammended. On some boots Burning had appeared between Action and Narrator; here, Action flows right into Narrator. So now y'all can hear it too. - - - - My original tape only had 1981 listed as its date, so it's no help clarifying that. Back in 2003 I saw it was then thought to be 1981-01-10, and so I updated my tape J-card. I now see the current thought is 1981-04-10, and so I'm going with that. - - - - This source seems to have the channels reversed vs. that boot version. Taking the same "Action" boot song sample, that has the drums in the left and Michael's vocals in the right. This tape has Michael's vocals in the left and drums in the right. My attachments from cassette deck to computer are with a stereo mini cable, so I haven't introduced a reversal / that's how the tape is. - - - - My source tape also had most of the same boot "Ripe!" bonus songs. On side A after Permanent Vacation were "Romance" and "1,000,000". On Side B after White Tornado was "Ages Of You". All of these are from some other different shows of undetermined date; I skipped them here. What's here can then fit on one disc (if you are a burner). - - - - I had this in my trade list, but I don't think anyone ever picked it. Crank it up and ENJOY! it as I have, and share it so others can hear it. - - - - Filenames have numbers on the end that are the TIMES (ex. - "...-359" is 3min59sec long). I mark the start of tracks when the music or count-in begins, not the talking about it before it starts.

Notes: Very nice early board mix. Some vocal adjustments on the first track, but after that, there's not much to complain about. There are a couple of gaps, one before the set change, and one before Rockville, which is probably from a tape flip. Other than that, you'd have a hard time finding a better early document of the band than this.

Chris Larson (3/5) flac / 1 A A View   Rapid Eye Movement Release 13
Notes: 490mb/81min, CAVEAT EMPTOR: This is the complete 4/10/81 show that was previously thought to have been from 1/11/81 but new research has shown that R.E.M. didn't play their first show at Tyrone's until the end of January '81, so this show is now accurately sourced from this date in April. The original set list has been restored which places "Burning Down" as the 2nd track performed where previously it was placed as track 8. The old 1/11/81 boots were seldom complete with both the 1st track "Rave On" and the last "White Tornado" being omitted, but this source for Rapid Eye has both tracks - although the introduction to "Rave On" is unfortunately missing. This show has been mixed from 2 separate sources to afford the complete set and is remarkably good quality considering its age, however there are occasional fluctuations in sound levels and also a short burst of background "hiss" at the end of "Burning Down". A RAPID EYE MOVEMENT RELEASE: JUNE '04

Chris Larson (3/5) flac / 1 B+ View   Stereo SBD trade tape TDK SA 90
Notes: 1.66gb/78:32 Per uploader to Dime: This fresh remaster was completed 2011-10-13, & the final FLACs made 2011-10-14. The dub to computer was at 71EVEN levels, at 96-32. Then I used Cool Edit 2000 to edit out the bonus tracks, & Normalize the whole to 99%. After that, all I did was cut it up into tracks.
