Frankenstein 04:50 According to a recent Entertainment Weekly article, this is Page's most memorable show *** Tracking Notes: Note that as tracked, disc 2 requires an 80 minute disc. You may move Harry Hood and Tweezer Reprise to disc 3 if you wish to use 74 minute discs. I choose to use an 80 minute CD-R for disc 2 to maintain the consistancy of the second set (and since it times out so darn perfect for an 80 minute disc!) *** General Notes: This source is a purported SBD/Aud matrix > cass/0 > DAT (as noted at http://www.freedumb.net/sbd/sbdlist.html), however this lineage is questionable. There is a cut at 45:07 in the first set, however this sounds like a DAT cut or digi dropout, as opposed to an analog tape flip (I left this cut as it existed from the original DAE, rather than editing, because it occurs during a song (Scent of a Mule). Another reason I question the analog generation is because there is zero perceptible analog hiss anywhere in this recording. Also, analog tapes tend to stretch as they are used, and people usually get between 46 and 48 minutes per side of a 90 minute tape. 45:07 is considered an odd place for an analog flip to occur. Also, there is no noticeable cut at around the 90 minute mark in the show (where the next tape flip should occur). As for my skepticism for the SBD/AUD matrix, there are moments when I would swear this source is true, however the noticeable echo and reverb normally associated with audience tapes from indoor arenas (MSG in this case) is quite noticible. If this is not an SBD/Aud Matrix, this source would likely be an FOB, since the audio presence is very "up front." There is a well circulated FOB Schoeps CMC3/mk4 source from 12/29/94. This 12/30/94 source may very well be from the same rig and taper, however this is pure speculation. *** Editing Notes: Removed cut at the end of Poor Heart (this was at the 63:13 mark in the show, probably from the original DAT > CD conversion since the next track (Tweezer) is over 21 minutes in length, and thus would put the total disc time over 74 minutes. Removed a .5 second skip at the end of Poor Heart, probably a DAE artifact since this would be at the end of the CD-R that was EAC-ed. Removed the fade and cut between YEM and Purple Rain (end of disc 2 on the original DAE) Removed the cut during the crowd noise between Tweezer Reprise and Frankenstein (79:16). This cut sounds as if it came from the master DAT (perhaps the taper stopped his/her deck between set II and the encore). --- Mike Wren, 11/30/00
