Charlie Parker Quintet
Early March 1946
Finale Club, Little Tokyo, Los Angeles CA
Unknown radio broadcast
(2 items; TT = 6:36.10)
Miles Davis (tpt); Charlie Parker (as); Joe Albany (p);
Addison Farmer (b); Chuck Thompson (d)
d1t01. Billie's Bounce (C. Parker) 3:43
d1t02. Anthropology (D. Gillespie-C. Parker) 2:54
-------------------------------------------
Notes:
- A rather rough recording believed to be from the Finales Club
in early March 1946. The timings for these two tracks closely
match the timings given by Peter Losin for this date.
- Losin also lists four other tracks for this recodring that
are missing here. The full tracklist for the recording is
given as:
1. Billie's Bounce (C. Parker) 3:41
2. Ornithology (C. Parker-B. Harris) (incomplete) 4:59-Missing
3. All the Things You Are (J. Kern-O. Hammerstein) 5:06-Missing
4. Blue 'n' Boogie (D. Gillespie-F. Paparelli) 5:07-Missing
5. Anthropology (D. Gillespie-C. Parker) 2:44
6. Announcement (incomplete) 0:02-Missing
"From the Finale Club, located at two-thirty (?)..."
Further notes from Peter Losin's Site:
"A local rhythm section backing Parker and Davis. Davis was in Los Angeles
with the Benny Carter Orchestra and apparently played with Parker after
hours at the Finale Club. Eventually he was fined by the musicians' union
and chose to leave the Carter group and stay with the Parker Quintet.
Davis's playing is steadily more assured, but there are some rough spots,
e.g. the "Anthropology" theme and the opening chorus of "Ornithology."
Parker covers nicely for him, however. Davis really shines on "All the Things
You Are." (Missing here)

Notes:
- This version is more complete than the previously released LL43. This is the most
complete version known to circulate.
- d1t02 is cut at the end of the track
- d1t06 is cut at the end of the trackmid announcement.
- There is the standard flaws with this recording as is to be expected from a
61 year old recording, but it is still listenable. A fine early specimen
