This tape has some phasing issues that appear in short, but somewhat frequent bursts. These glitches sound similar to running the audio through a flanger and often cause brief dropouts in the sound on a fairly regular basis, but most noticeably during Tony's solo in "Heaven And Hell". Running time is 106 minutes. Ronnie seems to lose his place for a moment before the 2nd verse of "N.I.B.", which carries on slightly longer than usual. A more embarrasing memory lapse occurs in the middle of "Black Sabbath" [3:40] when Ronnie forgets "Satan sitting there he's smiling" / "Watch those flames grow higher and higher". Instead, he hums a few graceful sounding scales to fill in. When the fast section kicks in, several measures pass before Ronnie finally comes in. Did he almost forget that section as well? The last two verses of "Iron Man" get mangled pretty badly too, but no worse than Ozzy might have done! On the other hand, the band plays a rather sweet version of "Lonely Is The Word" with both Ronnie and Tony turning out some stellar performances. After a short a capella outro by Ronnie, Iommi ends the song with an arpeggiated Am7 chord. This is followed immediately by Tony playing a brief rendition of the rarely performed "Don't Start (Too Late)" from SABOTAGE, which also serves as the intro for "Black Sabbath". This early arrangement seems to illustrate the origin of Tony's guitar intro for "Black Sabbath", which appears to evolved from his live ending for "Lonely Is The Word", since both were based on the Am7 chord. Ronnie makes a crack about how well the security has done keeping the audience in their seats. His sarcasm isn't lost on the punters who protest this petty swipe. He then goes on to talk about how the band had now played two gigs in England, mentioning both the Portsmouth and Southampton gigs. It's difficult to hear exactly what he's saying here, but I believe he alludes to the cancellation of the Portsmouth gig. He thanks the Portsmouth fans for attending the Southampton gig instead. His mild criticism of the crowd seems unwarranted once you hear their chanting and clapping during the intermission (SA-BBATH! clap-clap-clap Turo Taimen: “One thing just caught my attention and that is the running time of the show! My version has a running time of 111 minutes. I compared it with the version that Jarkko has listed on his site and that has the running time of 99 minutes. The difference is more than 10 minutes. That's strange.” [Editors note – Although it’s impossible to know for sure without having both copies on hand to compare, it could be a combination of speed differences and edits. You may also have a completely different source tape?! But yes, that is quite a time difference.] “Even though part of Lonely Is The Word is also on CD2, it only lasts about 30 second or so, so that really doesn't add much time. There are also about 2 minutes of silence at the end of “Children Of The Grave” but that doesn't add enough either. [Ed. – Ah! But this does begin to close the gap!] “The show it self is from Bristol - no question! Ronnie talks to the crowd for a while after “Die Young” and he mention Bristol more than once. One line is that "Bristol is always great!" And so is the show! Bill has a very long drum solo “Sweet Leaf”. Also, Tony plays “Don't Start (Too Late)” as an intro to “Black Sabbath”! “Heaven And Hell” is bit different from the usual rendition. Ronnie sings a lot of his own stuff in the middle of the song and there is no crowd participation at all!! That is strange. I think he has always asked the crowd to sing along during “Heaven And Hell”, but not at this show. He just sings, "On and on, it's Heaven And Hell" all by himself. Tony also pulls a great guitar solo out for over 13 minutes! It includes “Orchid” and several jam sections, as well as part of “Warning”. Even though this was an early show in the tour, the band is really tight. And Ronnie does a great rendition of “Iron Man”. “The sound quality is very good, but has some speed fluctuations. The worst ones occur during “N.I.B.”, “Die Young” and “Paranoid”. But I still think this deserves a B.” “So, I don't know if this is a different source or what. But no other trader seems to have an equally long version. Let me know is you have any info on this one.”
