SaturdayÕs benefit for the Natasha Shneider fund gave us an incredible and very moving night of music from some guys youÕd never have expected to see tear up onstage. The setlist was unbelievable, I donÕt think IÕve ever heard Josh Homme and co. play better, and hear PJ Harvey sing with the Queens was quite possibly a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing. Spectacular stuff.
The recording is decent Ð you can check out the sample to see if itÕs for you. The Fonda can be kinda iffy sound-wise, and the mix felt a little under-textured, but every so often a tune like ÒRun Pig RunÓ would really come alive in there, so maybe it was just where I was standing. Hopefully somebody who knows the room better got a nicer capture of the evening, but for those of you itching to check this show out, I figured IÕd post this until something sweeter comes along. My apologies, incidentally, for not knowing the names of the tunes Alain played solo in the encore Ð if anyone can enlighten me, IÕd really appreciate it.
One last thing: I canÕt really make you guys do anything, obviously, but if youÕre downloading this, I canÕt encourage you enough to consider donating to the Natasha Shneider fund. The show was a benefit for pretty much one of the worthiest causes IÕve heard of in a long time, and it clearly meant a lot to these musicians. You can read about it and make a donation Ð and seriously, even just a few bucks is very good karma for you, I promise Ð at natashashneider.org. Enjoy! |
