Notes: XX-XX-70 Workingman's Dead Studio Outtakes (Studio Mr>??>C>S.F.>Cdr) Ripple ## Tastebud @@ Mason's Children ++ Uncle John's Band ^^ Ripple* ## Tastebud* @@ Mason's Children* ++ Uncle John's Band* ^^ Radio Advertisment $$ Notes: - Tracks 5-8 Are The Same Material With EQ and Dolby A @@ Tastebud is the same version as present on The Golden Road (box set) version of The Grateful Dead (first album). The speed is (only very slightly) different, with these versions running to about 4:19, with The Golden Road/bonus version clocking in at around 4:17 - including a 3 second lead-in not present on these versions). In other words, these versions are around 2% slow. ## There is a cut at 1:14 of (both versions of) Ripple. The same recording is found without the cut, and in better quality (but still far from perfect) on The Unsurpassed Dead Demos bootleg. There is also a speed difference, with this version running around 3% slower. ++ Mason's Children: This is the version found on So Many Roads (box set) disc 1 track 10. However the version on the box set is (as the liner notes indicate) "slightly" edited - there are in fact 35 seconds missing removed at the 1:53 mark. Again, a speed difference with this version running around 2% slower. The box set version also has some laughter at the beginning, and a slightly extended ending. The extra 35 seconds on this version were to have been overdubbed with a Jerry solo. Another version of this recording is found on the Unsurpassed Dead Demos bootleg, which runs another 1% slower. ^^ Uncle John's Band: A truncated version of this recording is found on the Unsurpassed Dead Demos bootleg. The bootleg version is brighter, hissier, and cuts at 4:09 (losing the accapella finish). This version runs more like 1% slower than the bootleg version. $$ Radio Advertisment. This is a DIFFEERENT advertisment to the one included at the end of the remastered Workingman's Dead in The Golden Road (box set). It does use the same theme, however - "Steal It". Summary: Quality is a little ropey, but the Mason's Children has a middle section not avilable elsewhere. The other tracks are either available commercially, or in arguably better quality on The Unsurpassed Dead Demos bootleg, with the exception of the Radio Advertisment.
