The first five tunes are electric Dead. At the conclusion of I Know You Rider they start to go into High Time but immediately pull up short. During the pause after this tune the stage is re-rigged for the acoustic segment of the set but there is no set break and the band does not leave the stage en masse. The conclusion of Uncle John is clipped. There is another extended pause while Pigpen's guitar mic is set up, and then he concludes the acoustic segment with Katie Mae. The remainder of the set is electric Dead again. Smokestack Lightnin', Wake Up Little Susie > Black Peter and Katie Mae appear on Bear's Choice. Dark Star through Lovelight appears on Dick's Picks 4. The Allman Bros and Love were also on the bill. The GD Records / Polygram Records CD, "Allman Bros Band Fillmore East February 1970," (GDCD 4063) releases tape of the Allmans from this run and may contain tunes from this date. Notes: Possibly 2/13/70 Fillmore East NY NY, early show. Has been seeded and also circulates as: February 12, 1970 Ungano's Night Club New York, NY (See shn link) IMHO: I've downloaded this shn set and gave it a listen and then compared it to DP 4. Now I was not there -- my first show was not until 8 years later -- and I don't know, but I have to weigh in on the 02/13/70 show theory. The crowd noise between songs is just too "large hall" for me to believe that it is a small club. Unfortunately, this set does not seem to have any songs that also appear on DP 4 or Bear's Choice, so a direct comparison is not possible. According to DeadBase, some of the "late show" songs appear on DP 4 and to my ears the recording sounds like the same venue as this SHN set. Bear, who was probably there, says on his site that there was neither an early show nor a show on 02/12/70 (for Bear's version) ... so go figure. Other opinions, as listed on the 02/12/70 shn link and elsewhere, abound. Only thing I can say for sure that this is early Grateful Dead (Pig era) and sounds good. I'll list it as 02/13/70, but who the hell knows... Wouldn't surprise me if this shn was just bits of all 3 Fillmore shows... See also: bear, etree 5832, etree 9191, deadlists (1970 see notes for Feb. Fillmore shows), setlist (search 2/70), budd discussion and and this. form your own opinion ... the show is pretty widely circulated.
