Notes: sbd - cotsman [2007-09-10]Ok but not a overall compelling performance. Jerry enunciates on New Speeway in an unusal way, and Phil provides some power chords bass in NFA post SS. Two somewhat contrasting reviews from the LMA "I downloaded this show for a few reasons: to hear the Dead in one of my favorite years, for the Attics (among other tasty songs in this set list), and to hear the New Speedway-->Nobody's Fault-->New Speedway sandwich. The sound quality of this show is excellent, but I find the playing to be uninspired, even Pig who brings the energy isn't at his peak IMO, though the Lovelight is truly exceptional. Garcia is definitely average considering how many stellar performances he had in this time period. I guess I feel it's borderline 3/4 stars because I'm comparing it unfavorably to monumental shows that preceeded and followed it, but the truth is it's a show I probably won't revisit much because beyond Lovelight there's no one song that was performed so well it calls me back, and there's lots of other great shows out there to listen to. Most notably for those of you who haven't happened across it is the 4/15/70 show which smokes from start to finish....A great little sleeper show and one of the first 1970 shows I collected on tape. Not as good as the night after, for obvious reasons. And not really a tripped out kinda show. But boy, do thet play their asses off! The Good Lovin is spectacular. And a rare (the first) Attics is nice to hear. But the show stopper is the New Speedway thru NFA and Lovelight - one of Pig's greatest. This show must be heard LOUD! Recommended. Dr. Flashback ;-)" Show oddity has no Mickey Hart and 1st Attics, but to me the slide guitar of GMLSG is unique in its raunchy in your face tone (for the gd). But 1970 has more than a few transcendent shows so this one isn't on the must hear list despite several highlights.

Notes: sbd w/ NRPS [2007-09-15] From the info file "Most currently circulating CDRs are partial selections from this show, many exclude the NRPS set entirely and all seem to be missing "Fair Chance To Know". This version is still missing most of "The Weight", "Dire Wolf", and the "Cold Jordan" encore. Other than these defects it represents the complete show in the correct order and excellent sound. Remastered by Jack Warner. Projected coordinated by Jim Powell. This more complete version didn't change my assessment - rauchny guitra in GMLSG and the agressive Phil power chords in NFA...

[2009-02-09]Nice sound and mix. Gotta love GMLSG played at these college shows. Nice way to spend a cold rainy winter day.
