notes: Before 'Auctioneer (Another Engine)', Michael launches into probably the most bizarre monologue/rap backed by Peter on guitar playing Auctioneer intro as follows:

'I would hide and she would hide and the river would hide & the river was wide and the lake was deep.
All these mountains gather round in circles and all these people in their canoes swimming' around.
Paddles dipping, dipped in, dipping way down deep into the cool, cool hot water.
Now in America we have a tradition: everybody works from Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, they get off half an hour early and drive home.
Some of them grew up in the suburbs and they went to boy scout camp and girl scout camp and taught themselves how to row the boat.
These people get their weekends free and they get off and they get their ice chests made of styrofoam and they go out in their boat and they row around in the lake.
Well, I've got something to tell ya, we live in a state called Georgia, Georgia's the biggest state east of the Mississippi river which divides the continent right down the middle from north to south.
In Georgia there are two lakes that were there in the Pleistocene era. You see Georgia used to be under water, but now its got lakes from the north to the south to the east & west, all up and down the state.
So these people get off work, they wake up Saturday morning, they pull Joanna out of bed, and say 'come on baby, we're going to row the boat'.
They get to these lakes, and they throw their boats into that cool, cool deep water. They take their Styrofoam ice chests filled up with PBR Budweiser, they throw their oars in, and they jump into that boat and they go out in the middle and they're dog-paddling, and you better believe they're dog-paddling for their lives cause they have nothing better to do.
They get their Styrofoam icechests filled up with PBR Budweiser, get their wife Joanna out of bed on Saturday morning and go down to the man-made lake and row around for a while.
So we're out there dog-paddling, looking down through the cool, cool deep between our knees, down into the bottom of the water and I see the tops of trees, and the tops of houses, a valley that's filled up with water.
We're talking about man-made lakes, it's a concept you may not understand cause you live on an island, but we live on an island that's a little bit bigger.
People like to have their water on weekends so you're out there dog-paddling and you better believe you're dog-paddling for your life.
And you look down between your knees into that cool, cool deep and you see the tops of trees and the tops of houses that was once a small village in a valley and you think to yourself, god damn, this is a strange fucking world….....'

After 'Auctioneer (Another Engine)' finished, Stipe asks the crowd if they liked & understood his story. - Chris Hartstonge
